UIHLEIN’S ALL-POWERFUL DRIVER BRINGS FOXHILLS TO ITS KNEES AMERICAN STAR DOMINATES AND WINS HIS FIRST ASIAN TOUR TITLE BY SEVEN SHOTS W ielding his driver like a deadly sword, Peter Uihlein brought the Longcross Course at Foxhills Club & Resort to its knees and registered his first Asian Tour title and his fourth win as a professional. The 34-year-old American looked like heading home early when, after starting on 10, his score ballooned to two-over par after just eight holes in the first round following a deflating triple-bogey seven on the penultimate hole. The 380-yard first is a gentle starting hole, and when the LIV Golf star failed to make a birdie after hitting a solid three iron off the tee, he figured there needed to be a change of plan. For the rest of the tournament he resorted to using his length as an advantage and hit his driver off the tee on most holes. He did make four bogeys and a double after that, but also reaped rich dividends as he made two eagles on par- fours and 24 birdies over the next 62 holes. The RangeGoat GC star finished on 20-under par and completed a dominant seven-shot win over Andy Sullivan and Caleb Surratt. At 6,664 yards for a par-71, Foxhills is a short course, but it is well protected by thick trees lining both sides of the fairways. The trees also play a big role in hiding the strength and direction of the prevailing wind and dictate that most pros do not unleash their drivers on a majority of holes. There were only a handful of Bravehearts like Uihlein, who took the challenge head-on. In the end, fortune favoured the brave. “I was two-over par after eight holes when I tripled the 17th. At that point, I did not believe I would be 20-under at the end of the week. Excited to win. It’s been a while since I did that,” said the former US Amateur champion.
