Asian Tour Book 2024

(a Challenge Tour event in Kensville, Ahmedabad in India in 2012), followed up an even-par 71 opening round with a stunning 61, followed by a 69, and then backed it up with a bogey-free 63 on Sunday. The 63 was the lowest score on the final day, and since Uihlein had already started with a one-shot advantage over the field, he was impossible to catch. “Winning all over the world has always been a goal for me and the Asian Tour has done such a tremendous job with The International Series events. It Caleb Surratt [left] and Andy Sullivan [right] tied for second after performances that impressed. is an honour to win here,” said Uihlein, who finished with three birdies in a row, making it a one-sided result in the end. “That Challenge Tour event in Ahmedabad was my first as a pro. I love and feel comfortable playing golf internationally and playing here on the Asian Tour and the last three years on LIV Golf has kind of rejuvenated me a little bit. I have always felt very welcome on the Asian Tour, and I am glad I have won my first title on the Tour.” Uihlein revealed the moment he decided to switch his plans off the tee. “It’s funny. I started the first day with good drives on the 10th and 12th and then tried to lay up on the 13th and blew it in the trees. Laid up on the 17th and blew it into the trees and made a triple. Laid it up on the first and blew it in the trees. From there on, it was like ‘I am just hitting drivers’,” said Uihlein, who led the Greens in Regulation stats for the tournament at 80.56% (58 out of 72). “It wasn’t frustration. I actually felt I was hitting the driver great. So, I thought I wouldn’t take my best club out of play. I then hit a driver on the second (376 yards) over the green and made a birdie from there. I never thought that green was reachable when playing the practice rounds. I just felt the driver played to my strength a little bit more.” Sullivan, who played alongside rookie pro Surratt in the final round, missed a short birdie putt on the par-five closing hole to miss out on solo second place. But the Englishman was also helped by Surratt, who looked solid throughout the round before making bogeys on the 16th and 17th holes. A four-time winner on the DP World Tour, Sullivan said: “I loved it, it was great. I really enjoyed myself, I’m not gonna lie. Being competitive at golf and obviously seeing a load of lads that I haven’t seen for a while, obviously, because we don’t play with the Asian Tour as much anymore, and the LIV guys as well. “So, it’s good to see friends that I haven’t seen for a while and catch up with them, and obviously to play good golf, it’s great.” Surratt, who was just two shots behind Uihlein heading towards the closing stretch, was frustrated with his finish. “It’s tough because I felt like I was in contention all day, but Peter ran away with it and that’s hard to beat,” said the 20-year-old American, a member of Legion XIII on LIV Golf. “However, this is a great learning experience for me, and I am looking to improve my game. It’s a really good week to build on.” 74 I N T ER NAT IONA L SER I E S ENGL A ND F OX H I L L S C L U B & R E S O R T AU G U S T 8 - 1 1 | P R I Z E MON E Y: U S $ 2 M I L L I ON
