Cap Back Toe Wrap Construction Reinvents Game Improvement

Game improvement irons are traditionally cavity backs if there is such a thing. They perform brilliantly but certainly won’t win a beauty contest.

Enter the Stealth irons, TaylorMade’s reinvention of the game improvement cavity back iron which utilises a multi-material hollow body construction to improve face flexibility and deliver fast ball speeds in a confidence-inspiring shape.

Cap Back with the new Toe Wrap Construction wraps the design around the high toe area to reduce weight, the 10g saved is then pushed low to the wider sole. By making the sole 3mm wider and getting that CG lower by 0.8mm, TaylorMade were able to make the lofts half a degree to a degree stronger than SIM2 Max, yet still achieve a higher launch angle.

A polymer cap nearly eight times lighter than steel closes off the void in the rear. The hollow head and Thru-Slot Speed Pocket in the sole disconnect the face from the body, and with nothing bonded to the back, the face attains maximum flex and rebound.

“When we were thinking of the next level of cap-back design, we centred our thinking around the fact that the majority of golf shots happen at centre face or lower. In order to drive performance lower in the club face, we needed to drive the centre of gravity lower in the club face because where CG goes, the sweet spot follows.”

Stealth irons’ performance is intentionally matched by its looks, which was inspired by TaylorMade’s P·700 series for visual appeal both in the bag and at address. A tour satin finish gives a serious look at setup and chrome accents allow it to stand out on the shelf. The carbon print on the Cap Back aligns the iron with the rest of the Stealth family.

“Every golfer of every skill level wants an iron that looks great in the bag and delivers the performance they demand. With Stealth, the look of forgiveness has changed. Stealth delivers incredibly high launching distance and forgiveness in a players inspired, technically elegant design package.”

Other core TaylorMade iron technologies have also been seamlessly integrated in the Stealth irons:
Progressive Inverted Cone Technology behind the springy 450 stainless-steel face optimises and protects ball speed at typical impact locations across the face.

Individually designed Echo dampers in the 4-9 irons span the full face and absorb unwanted vibrations, these ribbed polymer dampers tune sound and give the irons a forged feel.

The long irons are designed with slightly more draw-bias than the mid-irons, which in turn have slightly more draw-bias than the short irons; this progressive ball-flight bias keeps the longer irons from fading or slicing.
