BANKING ON YOUNG TALENT

01 Jul 2025

Promising young golfer Chen Xingtong got a boost in her year’s tournament calendar when VP Bank gave her a sponsor’s invite to play in the VP Bank
Swiss Ladies Open.

This year will be the sixth time VP Bank features as the tournament’s title sponsor, solidifying a commitment to the growth of women’s golf. In the run-up to the event, which will be held later this year, VP Bank hosted an exclusive and intimate golf experience at ParTee Golf in Singapore, offering key clients the unique opportunity to interact with Chen Xingtong, a rising talent in professional golf, and Urs Monstein, Group CEO of VP Bank. This unique event combined interactive golf simulator challenges – on a  simulated version of the actual tournament
course at Golfpark Holzhäusern – with a fireside chat, providing an inspiring and relaxed environment to connect and discuss golf, business and performance.

“We are thrilled to be able to support Chen Xingtong,” said Urs Monstein, VP Bank’s Group CEO who was in Singapore for the event. “She’s an incredible talent, and her dedication and hard work are truly inspiring.

Sponsoring Xingtong is part of VP Bank’s broader commitment to fostering young talent. VP Bank’s sponsorship activities reflect its purpose “partnership for progress”. Just as we understand the needs of our clients, we are also familiar with the challenges faced by the young talents we support. We know that success can only be achieved as a team. We believe in the power of sport to inspire and develop future leaders. By supporting athletes like Xingtong, we aim to provide them with the resources and opportunities they need to excel. In doing so, we’re helping to build a
foundation for their success.”

For this reason, VP Bank supports ambitious talents and forms partnerships with them. At the fireside segment of the event, Chen Xingtong told the invited guests what it meant to receive this sponsorship, and to play at the VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open, part of the Ladies European Tour circuit, “I was surprised when I heard about the support from VP Bank.

To be recognised like this is a huge honour. It boosts my confidence and motivates me to train even harder to live up to the potential they saw in me. “It is so important for young athletes to have such support around them, providing access to resources such as travelling overseas to play events which we would usually not even be able to dream of going to. It validates our efforts, allowing us to focus on our performance as well as supporting us in the
pursuit of our goals. I am deeply grateful for this opportunity.”

At the event, clients were able to get up close and personal with both Ms Chen and Urs Monstein, who discussed the common principles of golf and business – resilience, precision and adaptability.

“Golf and banking have a lot in common,” the VP Bank Group CEO provides. “Just as every shot counts in golf, every decision matters in banking. We offer customised financial solutions to both our Intermediaries and Private Banking clients, and these require careful planning and execution, much like a golfer’s approach to each game. And our involvement in golf helps us connect with clients who appreciate these shared values. “Golf is not just a sport — it is a reflection of strategy, precision, and mental resilience, much like wealth management. Through this event, we wanted to create a meaningful and relaxed setting for our clients to experience these parallels firsthand, while also supporting a promising young talent like Xingtong,” said Monstein.

Reto Marx, Co-Head Singapore and Chief Risk Officer Asia added, “At VP Bank, we pride ourselves on delivering exclusive and differentiated client experiences. This event brought our clients into the world of professional golf in a dynamic and interactive way, while supporting the next generation of young athletes like Xingtong on their journey”.

“The VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open has become an important platform for women’s golf and we are proud to be a part of it. This activation in Singapore reflects our belief in creating meaningful connections – between sport, business and our clients,” added Mr Thomas Rupf, Co-Head Singapore and Chief Investment Officer Asia.
