Sergio Was Here… To Create

18 Feb 2019

As part of adidas’ continuing ‘Here To Create’ campaign, which calls upon those who have a bias for action to break boundaries and influence how things are done, media and guests were recently invited to witness the SMBC Singapore Open defending champion Sergio Garcia, inspire golfers to invent and shape the world around them.

Sergio has long been an influence in the world of golf from when he first extricated himself from behind a tree with no shot to the green as a 19 year old at the 1999 PGA Championship; the photo of him running after the ball and launching himself into the air to catch a glimpse still makes its rounds. And his record of 25.5 points from the 2018 Ryder Cup underscores how fierce a match player Garcia is, leaving an indelible mark on all who he has come up against.

Who then more fitting than this Spanish golfer nicknamed El Nino to showcase the latest in apparel and equipment from adidas Golf in an afternoon of creativity? Right off the bat on arrival, volunteers stepped up to the plate for a chance at creating an ensemble for Sergio with the latest adidas Ultimate365 golfwear, in colours they thought he would be most likely to wear on course and in competition. The affable champion gave the thumbs up to two outfits, and while all smiles and liking the yellow colours of the third, he said “maybe not” to wearing it on the golf course. Still, all three game volunteers were rewarded with personally autographed pin flags of the Singapore Open and a snapshot to capture the moment they dressed a champion.

Then it was Sergio’s turn, as he stepped behind the bar to create a cocktail under the guidance of Sentosa Golf Club’s mixologist, looking every bit the part of a celebrity bartender while concocting the rum and gula melaka creation in a challenge against three local influencers and ambassadors of adidas golf.

Revealing that his working relationship with adidas was a special one and went back a good 20 years, Sergio donned the newly launched Tour 360 XT shoes and swung away to demonstrate its comfort and stability, even as he posed for pictures in this season’s Ultimate365 apparel, moments before being surprised with a personalised Tour360 birthday cake.
