14 Jul 2019

A total of $1,033,891 was raised at the Singapore Island Country Club’s (SICC) 48th May Day Charity, aiding 21 beneficiaries this year, helping children, the elderly and the disabled.

The main charity golf tournament saw close to 530 golfers vying for luxurious hole-in-one car prizes on the Club’s three remaining golf courses as the New Course undergoes redevelopment into a new 27-hole course.

Come evening, close to 230 donors attended the gala dinner held at the Island Clubhouse’s Grand Ballroom. The Charity’s Patron and Gala Dinner Guest-of-Honour, President of the Republic of Singapore, Madam Halimah Yacob, graced the occasion for the second year in a row. In her message, Madam Halimah expressed gratitude for the Club’s effort in raising $1 million dollars which will go towards aiding underserved segments of society, before further expressing that the dedication shown in the fundraising efforts is an inspiration to all Singaporeans.

Highlights of the evening’s gala dinner was a ‘Tari Joget’ dance by Serenity Members of the Ain Society, one of the beneficiaries of this year’s event, along with musical performances from 10-year-old ukulele prodigy Jordin Tan and a stand-up comedy segment with Fakkah Fuzz.

In his welcome address, SICC Club Captain and Organising Chairman of the May Day Charity Ivan Chua thanked sponsors for their generous support in making an impact to better the lives of many beneficiaries.

The evening rounded off with the charity live auction that raised a total of $33,288 with successful bids for two golf sets, a Bushnell golf rangefinder, a 2019 Scotty Cameron Masters Fastback 2 Putter, and a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner.

Apart from the day’s main event, the Club also organised other fringe activities by its food & beverage, sports and lifestyle fraternities in an inclusive bid for members to contribute to the charitable cause.
