IN SUPPORT OF EQUAL SPACE, VOICE AND WORTH FOR SINGAPOREAN WOMEN

The 6th of July saw great weather paired with positive energy all around as guests arrived at Sentosa Golf Club for SCWO’s Golf Day. The charity tournament saw 108 participants, of which 15 were women, take to the championship Serapong Golf Course, including guest-of honour, Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Minister for Social and Family Development, who sportingly participated in the entire day’s activities. With its last charity golf event held way back in 1997, SCWO partnered with Media Group to organize the SCWO Golf Day 2023, seeking to raise funds to support SCWO’s programmes and initiatives like the Star Shelter and Maintenance Support Central. In celebration of the harmony between women and their allies, the event aimed to support the women under SCWO’s care and promote the ideals of ‘Equal Space, Equal Voice and Equal Worth for women in Singapore.’ Following a cool and breezy day out on the course, guests sat down to a buffet dinner, where SCWO President, Ms Junie Foo, in her opening speech said: “When we come together under the banner of equity, we can create opportunities for women to excel beyond traditional boundaries, we can bring forth meaningful change that transcends societal norms and expectations.“

Guest-of-honour Mr Masagos Zulkifli made mention of the White Paper on Singapore Women’s Development in his speech: “The White Paper reflects our shared vision towards a fairer and more inclusive society. It highlights that empowering women to reach their full potential is not just a moral imperative, it also a necessity for our nation’s progress. ” During the evening, guests were serenaded by young Ryleigh Anne Danielle, 1st Runner Up in the Little Miss Singapore 2018 Talent Segment. Ryleigh also participated in the In Her Stride 2022 Concert, which raised awareness against domestic violence on the International day of Eliminating Violence Against Women. The results of the SCWO Golf Tournament were also announced during the evening and SCWO would like to congratulate the winners. Julie Yoo emerged as the Women’s Champion on 35 points, while Chia Chong Zeng was awarded as the Men’s Champion with 39 points. Scoring 107 points, the Champion Team was led by Alfred Chua, Marc Gan, Julie Yoo and Kelvin Lim. SCWO was able to raise more than $140,000 in support of their cause. The contributions made by all the supporters played an integral part in the success of SCWO Golf Day 2023, demonstrating the power of embracing equity to create an environment of value, respect, and equality for all.
